October 30, 2014 at 2:24 am in reply to: Austin – Alejandro Aguilar 95, WWII U.S. Army Veteran #4584mototerryModerator
Eight members of the Patriot Guard Riders answered the family's request to honor Alejandro Aguilar. This was the second time this family has requested the Patriot Guard Riders. In 2009 SGT Matthew Thomas, husband of Mr. Aguilar's granddaughter Cynthia was killed in an automobile accident while on active duty at Ft. Bragg North Carolina. SGT Thomas, 82nd Airborne was just a few days away from what would have been his second deployment to Afghanistan. At the request of Mrs. Thomas the PGR participated in the recovery at ABIA, the funeral in Lockhart, and the internment at Fort Sam Houston. I was told today by Mrs. Thomas it was that experience that moved the family to request the presence of the PGR to honor their beloved WW II Veteran Alejandro Aguilar. The honor was ours.
October 3, 2014 at 9:09 pm in reply to: Arthur Ray ”Rocky” Roggenkamp, 89, U.S. Marine Corps, WWII Veteran, Battle of Corregidor. #4573mototerryModeratorWhat a good feeling it is on an extremely short notice mission to arrive and see fellow Patriot Guard Riders come out in numbers to honor a WW II Veteran. I believe we ended up with 13 bikes and Sam wrangling. There were several that were doing double duty at an earlier PGR mission and the morning Honor Flight at ABIA to D.C. Mr. Roggenkamp's family was very gracious and most appreciative. His Son and daughter-in-law invited us to join the nearby gathering of family and friends after the burial. Thanks to all!! God Bless
mototerryModeratorThe turnout for the mission was outstanding. There were twenty-five bikes that rode escort to the museum including two first mission riders. Bikes staging at the museum put the number above thirty. The escort from Elgin was absolutely flawless. For that I thank every rider for their complete cooperation and professionalism. Special thanks to the Elgin PD for getting us safely to Manor and to Austin PD for the safe escort through Austin to the museum. Thank you Bob Binkley for wrangling flags and also a big thank you to those able to stay and help assemble the exhibit.

mototerryModeratorHad a good turnout of Eleven PGR members at the funeral in Georgetown. Three were also able to join a similar number from CenTex on the flag line line for the Inurnment service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. The family expressed a heartfelt appreciation to the PGR. At our staging Mr. Moreland's son actually dropped off an ice chest full of ice cold water for us. JOB WELL DONE!!
mototerryModeratorMy heartfelt thanks both as the mission RC and cousin of our PGR compatriot Larry Sprouse to the brothers and sisters that came to the mission. The PGR had ten present to honor Larry and show respect to his family. The family, especially Larry's brothers and sister thanked me over and over and asked me numerous times to be sure and thank all that were there for them today. Thank you and God Bless.
mototerryModeratorSeven Patriot Guard Riders honored former Marine Lance Corporal David Rodriguez today. Thank you riders. Thanks to Sam Warren for doing double duty wrangling flags and standing tall.
mototerryModeratorThis is the exhibit the PGR is escorting to the Capitol. It travels disassembled in boxes. It will need to be set up in the lower rotunda. The lower rotunda is one floor below the south entrance ground floor. Click on this link to see the exhibit. http://www.excaliburexhibits.com/portfolio/custom-exhibits/texas-vietnam-veterans/?par=107
