Thanks to everyone that made it to "The Snake"! I forgot to count the bikes but there were at least a dozen or so and one cage! Shout out to Julie Duiker for wrangling the flags and herding the bar patrons into a great looking flag line. Both soldiers were awesome and really appreciated the welcome. Special thanks to Williamson County LEO Constable Chody and Lt. Fikac for volunteering to provide escort. Thanks to the Military Moms of Texas for pulling off another surprise. Most of all thanks to SPC Wade and SSG McDonald for their service to our nation.

A quick note: It's the monthly military appreciation night at "The Snake." The PGR escort will be a surprise to the Soldiers. The PGR is providing flags for the friends and kin of the soldiers at "The Snake". A member of the Military Moms of Texas will coordinate the flag detail with our flag wrangler Julie Duiker. Riders in the escort will not have flag duty. See you at the EXXON!! Be Safe!

It will be an honor to stand for BJ. He and my Dad were good friends. Over the years they hoisted many a cold Budweiser at Tuff's Tavern in Pflugerville. Here's to them and those like them..Damn few left!

Letter of appreciation received from Mr. Sykes daughter.

    Terry,

You and several other members of the PGR honored my father (Jim Sykes). I wanted to pass along to you and the others how honored we were that you came to help us say good bye to a man who loved his country so much. I know he was proud when he saw you there, over the past few years he watched the TV reports and was proud of what you all stand for.

My family was grateful and proud to have you all , we are sending photos for your site (via Vandewalle) and a donation has been made (via Murray) to help off set some of the cost and if you need anything feel free to ask, you will always have a place in our hearts for not only what you did for my dad but what you have and will do for all of our hero's.

Thank you so much again for taking time from your lives to honor my father, You are our Hero's

    Rene'

I went to High School with Mr. Sykes daughter Kandice (Kandy). We were in the same graduating class. I will be honored to stand in silent tribute to this great American World War II Veteran.

I received this letter tonight from Alton's wife Vicki. It's intended for all to read.

    Terry,

I apologize for the delay in sending this note, but please express my personal appreciation and respect for those in the Patriot Guard who braved the weather to pay tribute to Alton. I was deeply touched to see your members standing at attention as I walked into the funeral home and again as we drove so many miles to gather at the cemetery. So many of my friends and family shared the same emotions as I experienced as we witnessed the respect your group shows to someone such as my husband.

Alton felt a tremendous pride when he was able to join your group on a ride. I only wish he could have joined your membership sooner in life. Thank you for allowing him the privilege of serving as a fellow Patriot Guard Rider. The PGR was one of the highlights of his life.

Thank you again, and may God bless you all and keep you safe as you continue to ride.

    Sincerely,
    Vicki Young

Thanks to Juan for leading the mission. Great Job!! Thanks to Bob for wranglin the flags and doing the Wednesday recon. Thanks to everyone that stood for both missions on a crummy day all the way around….

I know everyone was personally thanked by Vicki, family members, and friends of Alton. His brother in law wrote this to me today.

"Caleb, Alton's son, told me is taking Alton's Patriot Guard vest with him to display everywhere he travels. His oil-field job takes him around the world. He shook hands with you guys after the funeral–big guy with short thin hair.

Thanks again to you guys. Vicki is very grateful that you guys dedicated most of the day and stood in the rain for hours on Alton's behalf."

The passing of Mr. Treuhardt on Christmas Day has to be an extra burden on the family. I sincerely regret I won't be able to ride and stand in his honor. I'm committed to babysitting my grandson because his normal babysitter (Grandma) has a Doctor appointment.
    Ride safe,
    God Bless

To all who stood for my Dad at his funeral and to all who were at the recovery of Lance Cpl. Shawn Hefner, USMC and was also with my Dad in spirit , I extend my deepest most heartfelt appreciation. I have been overwhelmed by the sincere compassion and support from the Austin and CenTex PGR. The death of my Dad, a Veteran, opened my eyes to something I hadn't considered…..Had it been one of your Father's funeral nothing on this Earth could have kept me from standing in silent respect for his service to our country. All of a sudden my little incident with "management" seems so unimportant. I want a fresh start…No mention of the past…I read a book once about Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce..I was struck by what he said upon surrendering to the US Army after he and his tribe had suffered horribly trying to escape being defeated and captured….Chief Joseph said "Hear me, my chiefs! I am tired; my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever." That's what I want to say about Yorktown. From where the sun now stands, I will say no more about it forever.

I'll be asking to be reinstated in the PGR where my heart had never left.

I want to again thank everyone that made the mission to Yorktown to honor SGT Gabe Green and stood in silent respect for him and his family. Your cooperation and dedication to the mission was exemplary and never in question. Everytime I would top a rise or a hill I could see in my mirrors the 18 bikes and one cage in perfect formation. It was a privilege to serve as your mission RC.

Thank you so much for the time your group gave to come to College Station and Cameron this weekend. Darryn was a wonderful man who gave his life for our Country. People like you that volunteer their time to help make this sad occasion more dignified and meaningful are a special type of person also. Many of the kids that were waiting at the high school were very impressed with your escort. The video of the escort is breathtaking. The only sound we hear is the motorcycles – it was amazing. At the end of the funeral as we heard the motorcycles start up again it was very moving to know that Darryn would be in good hands in his final journey home.

God Bless you and your group

Our mission was to stand and honor 2LT Darryn Andrews for giving his life defending our country and to respectfully demonstrate to the family our sincere gratitude. As we now prepare for the mission Monday to escort LT Andrews to his final resting place among fellow heroes please allow me to express my deepest appreciation to everyone. Your dedicated effort and cooperation has been outstanding.

Bennie Mills, what an awesome family he has. In today's 9-6-09 (Sunday) edition of the Austin American Statesman is the obituary for SMSGT Mills. The Patriot Guard is recognized for participating in his graveside service. The link should take you to it. There's a "sign the guestbook" link above the obituary. I signed the book but be aware comments are not posted until they have been reviewed for proper content.
