March 15, 2010 at 3:00 pm in reply to: Kennie H. Harris, 90, US Army, WWII veteran, Red Rock, TX, 12 MAR 2010 #2519markwellsKeymaster
Greetings,
Sincerest thanks and appreciation to those who attended Dad's services on Friday.
It ment a lot to the family and I am sure "Paw" appreciated it.
He bought my first motorcycle and rode most of my street bikes and really liked the latest one as it reminded him of the one he had back in the day.
When I told him I was doing PGR rides, his interest perked up and after each ride I attented, my first stop when home was to check in with him and give him all the details.Again, a big Thank You! to those who attented and to those who thought of him during our time of sorrow.
Joe Petty

With 22 riders and 2 cages, we had folks there from Austin, New Braunfels, Seguin area, Lockhart, Killeen, and the Red Rock area. Our new rider today was Chuck, who just moved here from Alabama and rode for the PGR there.
Special thanks to J.C. for wrangling the flags, keith for walking the flag line with me, and Hunter and Sioux for cleaning up the scraps at Cindy's.

Many thanks to the 24 riders, including one first timer. 2 cages (including our flag Wrangler Mark Wells). APD Motors and Williamson County LEO were, as always, super helpful.
A big thank you to our brothers and sisters from CenTex that continue to come to AUS designated missions, especially on such short notice.

What we're doing for our fallen, the families and the communities in which they live is difficult to put into words. There is nothing but good that comes from what we do. I am proud to be amongst the Patriots that are YOU!

Just FYI, my ice chest is MIA, (son-in-law barrowed it) so I will not have water with me. Please remember to bring your own.
Thanks for all you do!!March 5, 2010 at 12:56 am in reply to: Alton "Grizzlebear" Young, 59, PGR member, 04 Feb 2010, Cedar Park, TX #2508markwellsKeymasterThis was posted on the Centex site, I am sure most of you have already seen it. But just in case you haven't, I just had to share it.
Alton will long be remembered by alot of us, this is from another person that just shows how special he was.
Miss ya Alton,
Here is the post:I attended Grizzlebear's funeral in early February as a family friend, not as a PGR Rider. (I'm now living in New Mexico.)
You probably remember what a horrible day it was – rain, cold.
Alton introduced me to the PGR and we rode from Austin on quite a few missions together. Whenever I rode on a mission and he was unable to, he always asked me for all the details as soon as we got together.
I believe that there were tears in his eyes when he saw the fantastic PGR participation that came to honor him at his funeral. I know there were tears in mine.
Thank you so much to each of you who rode/drove that day. It was a wonderful moment.
I will miss Alton for the rest of my life. But when I remember him, it will be in conjunction with the PGR and our rides together.
WHAT A WONDERFUL GROUP!!! Thank you one and all.

February 28, 2010 at 1:57 pm in reply to: Vernon Hunter, 67, Vietnam Veteran, Austin, TX, 26 February 2010 #2501markwellsKeymasterSam Warren recieved this e-mail from a friend of Mr Hunter. He asked me to post it here.
I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You" for participating in the service for Vernon Hunter today. He was the IRS employee killed in Austin a week ago. I have worked with him in the past, and am also an IRS Collection manager, retired military, and member of PGR since last year.
I am very proud to have known Mr. Hunter, he was one of the best. I was, unfortunately, unable to attend the service this morning. I appreciate all you do. I guess I will have to peruse the website more often to see when/if I can participate in some of these activities.
A heartfelt Thank You to all! Have a great weekend.
