Confirmed mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to participate in the funeral and burial services for Corporal Billy Joe Butler. CPL Butler enlisted in the Army in July 1948 at 17 yrs old. He was soon sent to Korea assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Engineering Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. Charlie Company advanced ahead of the main force to build bridges, allowing U.S. forces to cross, then remained behind to destroy the bridges. His Unit was captured on November 28, 1950, when enemy forces attacked their defensive positions.

Billy died for his Country as a Prisoner of War at Camp Hofong North Korea, Jan 27, 1951. Billy’s parents received a ‘Battle Casualty Report’ Jan 3, 1951 reporting PFC Billy Joe Butler as MIA, however, it would be November 9, 1953, before Billy’s family would be notified of his death and even then, their son would not be returned home.

April 29, 2019, the US Army Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Laboratory, through channels, contacted Billy’s oldest, surviving family member, sister, Ellen Chipman. Billy’s remains had been identified and are being returned to his family

Additional information about his life and service can be read here: https://kfhtx.com/services.asp?page=odetail&id=3948&locid=1

The PGR went to Kerrville, TX to stand for PFC Billy Joe Butler. Billy Joe join the Army in 1948 .Two years later his unit was captured and he was held prisoner in North Korea, unfortunately he died in prison and he never came home for 68 years. The town of Kerrville came out and hundreds of people lined the roads with US Flags as we escorted PFC Billy Joe Butler to the Cemetery. A big present of Law enforcement officers and Fire Trucks were for there for Billy Joe Butler. There were 29 motorcycle and some cages. The flag line had 38 people.
Ride Caption Keith Longacre led a group out from Austin. And a group of PGR came from San Antonio and the rest of us came from all direction (Rest in Pease Billy Joe). Thanks for everyone that came.
