Nicki arrived early and posted flags at the club entrance. Later, I posted 2 flags up the road about a mile to mark an intersection that was easy to miss. The flags made it easier to see the turn onto the Rod and Gun Club Road. The weather was nice although a little humid and even though the threat of rain was persistent we did not experience other than a couple of sprinkles. The Rod and Gun Club presented a very unique setting along the shores of Lake Travis. Dusty had been a member of the club for 62 years so needless to say there was a great turnout. Many of the attendees went out of their way to thank us for being there. Several attendees, including the club president invited us to stay for a BBQ lunch but we were unable to take them up on the offer. Taps was the first event on the agenda, so we kept the flagline in place until the conclusion of taps. We were able to depart without being noticed because of the location of the flagline. Though our flagline was light in numbers (3) it seemed to be appreciated as much as it would have been if there had been 20!
Thanks to Keith and Nicki for always being there.
RIP Petty Officer 2nd Class “Dusty” DeBerry.
