This mission info is posted here for the reference of any Austin riders who wish to attend this San Antonio mission. We do not at this time have an Austin staging, so please proceed to the SA staging on your own to honor SSG Bowen's ultimate sacrifice.

The parents of Staff Sgt Clayton P. Bowen, U.S. Army, 29, of San Antonio, Texas, have requested the presence of the PGR at their son's funeral services on Friday, 28 Aug 2009.

SSgt Bowen was Killed In Action on Tuesday, Aug. 18 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska. Also killed was Pfc. Morris L. Walker, 23, of Chapel Hill, N.C. SSgt Bowen was a graduate of Churchill High School in San Antonio.

Funeral services will be held in their entirety at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery Shelter #4 with full military honors, including caisson. Please be ready to follow instructions about holding the flags as the horses approach.

SSgt Bowen's Mother has requested that as many PGR motorcycles as possible ride in the procession from the funeral home to the cemetery. We will then form a flag line at Shelter #4. Be prepared for a longer-than-usual ceremony at the cemetery.

    Date: Friday, 28 August 2009

    Mark,
I won't be able to make this mission due to having to work. Please stand tall for me and wish the family my best and let them know my prayers and God is with them.
    Thanks,
    Michael G
