Confirmed San Antonio Mission
PFC Gaitan – Army – Korea POW/MIA/KIA
23 & 26 Nov 2011 – San Antonio
The Patriot Guard has been invited by the family to stand and honor PFC Jimmie Gaitan (Army). PFC Gaitan was a medic with the Clearing Company, 2nd Medical Battalion (attached to 17th Infantry Regiment), 2nd Infantry Division. He was reported Missing In Action while tending to his wounded comrades in South Korea on February 13, 1951, later to be determined that he had been captured and was being held as a Prisoner Of War. PFC Gaitan died while a prisoner on May 24, 1951 in POW Camp 1 near Changsong, North Korea. His remains were identified on September 13, 2011, and will finally be returning home to San Antonio to rest.
This mission will consist of an airport recovery at the San Antonio International Airport on 23 Nov 2011 at 10:15am, and services which will be held on 26 Nov 2011 at Cordi-Marian in San Antonio at 10:00am, with interment and full military honors to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. If available, please try to attend to honor one of our local fallen heroes and help support the family. Thank you.
