San Antonio PGR is organizing this escort of eight unclaimed veteran cremains from Amarillo to Ft Sam Houston. All PGR from all regions are invited to participate.
FIRST AND FOREMOST I can not stress enough how important it will be to hydrate a few days prior, during, and after this run, it will be a very hot long ride day for those that want to do the whole route, in addition to the ceremony in the heat of the afternoon on June 1, 2018.
We have received the following mission request from a Missing In America Project (MIAP) Texas Rep Joyce Earnest . MIAP requested an escort from Amarillo, Texas to San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, May 31, 2018, via an overnight in Kerrville. Continuing again on Friday, June 1, 2018 to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for interment of 8 unaccompanied and unclaimed veterans cremains. The Veterans include 1 that served in WWII, Korea, and VN in the Army, Navy and USAF receiving a Purple Heart. 1 US Marine Corp, 1 US Air Force, 3 US Navy, and 3 US Army. Of these veterans, 5 total served in VN, 4 served in Korea, and 1 in WWII.
Those of you that have media contacts, please let them know what is going on so others in Texas and the US understand there is an issue regarding forgotten veterans across the country.
"The Funeral Service for these 8 Veterans will be held in the Assembly area of the Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery (Large Pavilion on south side). The service will begin at 1300 on 1 June 2018. The cremains will be placed on the brier by MacArthur High School JROTC Cadets along with the funeral flags. The Memorial Services Detachment (MSD) Honor Guard will perform the 3 volleys of rifle fire and the sounding of taps. The cremains represent Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force veterans. Flag folders will be present from each of the branches of service. Following the flag presentation, there will be comments from 3 individuals as well as a clergyman. We are expecting 100-200 attendees."
The route will escort our Heroes through several Texas PGR Regions and the SA PGR would like to allow those regions to participate as much as possible. The route is approximately 485 miles and will be broken up into 2 days and 5 legs.
