Confirmed mission: The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to participate in the funeral & interment services for Mr. John David Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs served in the US Marine Corps from June 1986 to September 1991, including participating in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He left the service as a First Lieutenant.

Date/Time: Friday, 10 July 2026.  Funeral begins 11 am, with procession and burial to follow.

Location: Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 TX-95, Elgin, TX 78621. We will stage at the funeral home.  map link.

9:30 – 10:15 am – Staging
10:15 am – Briefing
10:20 am – Flag line

Wx: 96 deg F, sunny

Notes: Please be aware there is a visitation prior to the funeral service.  Friends and family will be arriving during our staging period.  This mission is a flag line prior to the funeral service followed by an LEO escorted procession from the funeral home to McDade Cemetery, located SE of Elgin on Hwy 290, an approx. 12 mile ride.  We will form a second flag line for the interment portion.

Was a beautiful morning for a ride to the Providence – Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin.

Eight riders made it to honor John Hobbs. Mike Jones would lead this mission as a new ride captain in training. John was well known in the community so the parking lot was full. We formed a flag line at 10:25. Family and friends walking by the flag line and several thanking us for our service.

Following the service we retreated and put up flags and waited for the end of the service to stand and salute Mr. Hobbs as he was loaded into the hearse. The procession would take about 15 minutes arriving at the McDade Cemetery. We quickly dismounted and formed a second flag line for the interment service.

There was a full military honor performed by the Bastrop County Color Guard where John was the commander. Today was the most people that I have seen at an interment service in a long time.

Following the lowering of the casket we quietly retreated.

Thanks to all the riders today and for James Conti that came all the way from Victoria.

Congratulations are in order for Mike Jones as he did an outstanding job leading this mission.
