October 12, 2026 at 10:09 am #8155Gary MayersModeratorA beautiful Sunday morning and ready to ride. Eight Austin Patriot Guard Riders made it to the Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle to Honor CPL Daniel Swift Lathers. At 9:30AM we formed a flag line and were surprised at how many family members and friends came by, shook our hands and thanked us for our service. At the start of the funeral service we broke the flag line to stand by for the procession.
When the service ended we stood by to honor CPL Lathers as they loaded him into the hearse.
Thanks to Michele Binkley for taking care of the Flags and providing water for the riders in Kyle.
At 12:15 Hays county Constable led the procession from Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle to the Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Upon arriving flag wrangler Mark Wells was waiting with flags. We relocated to the Waters Edge where the grave side service was to be held.
Full military honors was performed by the Marine Corps with a rifle salute, playing of taps, and folding of the flag to be presented to the family.
At the end of the service we retreated and put up flags. I told all the riders a big thanks for coming and to be safe going home.
I want to recognize Mike Jackson for a great job on his first mission as a ride captain in training.
Thanks to Mark Wells for setting up all the flags at the cemetery.
We welcomed two first time riders Chris Sweet and Vince Myers.
RIP CPL Daniel Swift Lathers
