    CONFIRMED CENTEX MISSION
    PSG Willie "Bill" McNew, US Army, Retired, WWII & Vietnam Veteran, Copperas Cove, TX

    The family of Platoon Sergeant Willie McNew has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders in the Funeral Service and Interment of their Loved One.

    Bill McNew was a 24 year veteran of the US Army serving tours in Occupied Germany, Korea and Vietnam. A career tanker, he retired in 1974 as a Platoon Sergeant after severe battlefield injuries sustained in Vietnam. PSG McNew was awarded the Soldiers Medal; the Purple Heart for wounds received in action; and the Bronze Star with "V" Device for heroism during what has been documented as the, "Anonymous Battle" in the book, "Blackhorse Riders," which is on permanent status in the Library of Congress. The Presidential Unit Citation was awarded to individuals of this battle in a Rose Garden Ceremony hosted by President Obama on 20 Oct 09. This citation is the highest medal that can be awarded to a military unit.

    Flagline Establishment: 0920 +/- Once the service has begun, we will strike the flagline and prepare to participate in the procession to the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

    INTERMENT

    Staging Time: 1105

    Staging Location: The cul-de-sac between the Walk of Heroes and the Memorial Shelter at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery located on Hwy 195 just south of Killeen, TX.

    Briefing: 1110 – Once cleared, we will move to the shelter, set up the flags and await arrival of the procession.

    WX: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 99. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

    Notes:

    1. Arrive at Church staging on time and topped off.

    2. Hydrate well the night prior, bring water for yourself and a buddy and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.
