CONFIRMED MISSION
2nd Lt. Edward J. Lake, MIA/KIA WWII
San Antonio, TX, 19 Feb 2011The Patriot Guard has been invited to attend the services for 2nd Lt. Edward J. Lake, MIA/KIA, U.S. Army Air Forces, WWII. Lt. Lake and the rest of the aircrew were Killed In Action in New Guinea (Pacific Theater of Operations) on 27 Oct 1943 when their B-24D Liberator bomber crashed in heavy weather while returning from a mission. They were Missing In Action until 2007, when their remains were recovered. Their remains were identified in 2010.
The B-24D "Shack Rat", 320th Bombardment Squadron, 90th Bombardment Group, the famed "Jolly Rogers", 5th Air Force, had been on a reconnaissance mission over Japanese held territory in New Guinea. On the return flight, the aircraft crashed in rugged mountain terrain in foul weather. All twelve men on board were lost. Lt. Lake's Daughter was six months old at the time. She has requested our presence at her Father's services.
ITINERARY: for 2nd Lt Edward J. Lake, USAAF, MIA/KIA, WWII:
Date: Saturday, 19 Feb 2011, San Antonio, Texas.
1st STAGING (BIG FLAG Bikes ONLY): 1115 Hrs at Brookehill Funeral Home, 711 Southeast Military Dr. Safety Briefing at 1130 Hrs. Depart with procession to the church at 1200 Noon. Repeat: BIG FLAG Bikes ONLY at funeral home.

2nd STAGING (ALL other bikes and cars): 1130 Hrs at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 4401 South Flores St. Briefing 1145 Hrs. 1200 Hrs form flag line (in place for arrival of the procession). 1230 funeral mass. Full safety briefing during the funeral service.

As always, all bikes & cars are welcome. Lt Lake gave his life over 67 years ago defending America, at a time when the outcome of the war was still very uncertain. The freedom we enjoy today is due to people like him who did a remarkable thing: They saved the world. Please join us in honoring him.
