SGT Glenn M. Sewell, US Army, KIA, Hamilton, TX

The family of Sergeant Glenn M. Sewell has requested the presence and participation of the Patriot Guard Riders in the Airport Recovery, Funeral Service and Interment of their Loved One.

He died June 13 in Wasit Province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

This Mission will span two days. This is the combined Mission Order for both days. PLEASE READ THE NOTES FOR EACH PORTION.

Please join us in honoring this Young Warrior who gave his all that we may enjoy the freedoms we do.

AIRPORT RECOVERY

Date: Thursday, 23 Jun 11

Copperas Cove Staging Time: 1100

Copperas Cove Staging Location: Exxon at 190 & 116, 238 W US-190, Copperas Cove TX tinyurl.com/yeomlb3.

Copperas Cove Briefing: 1100

Copperas Cove KSU: 1115 – We will travel west on Hwy 190, then North on 281 to the airport in Hamilton, TX. Total distance is no more than 70 miles.

Hamilton Staging Time: 1245

Hamilton Briefing: 1300

Anticipated Wheels Down: 1330 – We will honor SGT Sewell as he is taken from the flight, then escort him and his family to Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton, after which riders will be released.

WX: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1300. Mostly sunny, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 101. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Notes:

1. Please hydrate the night before, bring water for yourself and a buddy, bring snacks and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.

2. ARRIVE AT STAGINGS ON TIME and topped off. There will be NO scheduled refueling until after we bring SGT Sewell to the Funeral Home.

3. Upon arrival at the Hamilton Staging Location all Riders will come under the operational control of the Hamilton Ride Captain.

4. All riders are welcome to participate in this mission regardless their affiliation, with the understanding that direction will come from the PGR Ride Captains.

Copperas Cove KSU: 0715 – We will travel West on Hwy 190, then North on 281 to the airport in Hamilton, TX. Total distance is no more than 70 miles.

Hamilton Briefing: 0920

Flagline Establishment: 0930 +/- There will be a Visitation ONLY from 1000-1200. We will have flags on rebar at the Funeral Home and will stand the flagline in shifts at the pre-emplaced flags. As visitation ends, we will recover the flags and prepare to escort Sergeant Sewell and his family to the cemetery approximately 12 mile south of Hamilton. We will be asking for a couple volunteers to leave early to help set up the cemetery.

WX: Mostly sunny, with a high near 97. South wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

1. THIS WILL BE A LONG DAY. Please hydrate Thursday night, bring water for yourself and a buddy, bring snacks and dress with consideration of the weather conditions.

2. ARRIVE AT STAGINGS ON TIME and topped off.

3. Riders coming in from Copperas Cove: We will shift out to top off at the gas station next door to the Funeral Home.

4. Bring a kickstand pad for possible use at the cemetery.

5. Upon arrival at the Hamilton Staging Location all Riders will come under the operational control of the Hamilton Ride Captains.

6. All riders are welcome to participate in this mission regardless their affiliation, with the understanding that direction will come from the PGR Ride Captains.
