San Antonio Confirmed Mission
Staff Sergeant Mark Schoonhoven
The Patriot Guard has been invited by the family and the United States Army to assist with the escort of Staff Sergeant Mark Schoonhoven, who died at Brooke Army Medical Center of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, on December 15, 2012, in Kabul, Afghanistan, while assigned to 32nd Transportation Company, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
The Patriot Guard will escort SSgt. Schoonhoven on Monday (Feb 4) from Brookhill Funeral Home in San Antonio, departing at 10:00am, to Randolph Air Force Base, where he will be flown home to Plainwell, Michigan for services and interment. Depending on the route taken, this escort will be about 20-25 miles. Once on RAFB, the procession will travel to Base Operations, where the PGR will be able to dismount for a honor line, depending on the time line in place, which will be decided that morning, so as always, Semper Gumby. If available, please try to attend to honor and help escort one of our Fallen Heroes as he travels home to rest. Thank you.
