Final Itinerary – CPT Paul Pena Memorial Service, San Marcos

CPT Paul Pena, 27, of San Marcos, Texas, died 19 January in Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. He was a graduate of San Marcos Baptist Academy and the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Date/Time: Thursday, 28 January 2010. Service scheduled to begin at 1900 hrs (7:00 pm).

Location: San Marcos Baptist Academy, 2801 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX. We will stage at the school. See directions for specifics. Map link: tinyurl.com/San-Marcos-Baptist-Academy

Directions: Traveling NW on RR 12 from San Marcos, the entrance to the San Marcos Baptist Academy is on the left about 1.5 miles after leaving the city. The GPS coordinates of the entrance are: 29deg 54’ 11.36” N and 97deg 59’ 29.83” W. Proceed up the winding road approx. 3/4 miles to the 4-way intersection. Turn left and proceed to the Maintenance Bldg, where we will stage.

1500-1800 hrs staging time (3:00 pm – 6:00 pm). See Notes below for explanation.

Wx: Windy with showers and thunderstorms likely. High 67, low 41 deg F, winds 15 – 20 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Bring drinking water, a small non-perishable food ration, and gear appropriate for the conditions. Paved parking is limited, so if on two wheels a kickstand pad is highly recommended, as ground conditions may be soft. As always, Semper Gumby (remain flexible).

Notes:
Early Flag Line: CPT Pena's family plans to arrive at approx. 1615 hrs and would like a flag line at that time. Riders who wish to stand the early flag line please be at the staging no later than 1545 hrs (3:45 pm) for the briefing.

2nd Flag Line: Flag line will be re-established at 1815 hrs until the start of the service, after which the mission is complete. There is no procession.
